After a full year of weekly drive-thru COVID testing here at Casa de Salud, we are announcing that this week (Wednesday June 9th, 8am to 9am) will be our last week of testing. We are so proud of supporting our community in this powerful way this past year.
During the early months of the pandemic in 2020, many community members and patients shared barriers in accessing COVID testing. Some felt unwelcome because they were being asked for the social security numbers or health insurance. Others needed to communicate with Spanish speaking staff and some COVID testing sites only had English speaking staff. Very many people did not have internet access to sign up for testing online. Others were very worried about the cost of testing and in fact, many people received bills from clinics or hospitals in the first few months of the pandemic.
Casa de Salud partnered with other organizations and organized around this issue of access and cost of COVID testing. We also decided to be part of the solution, and partnered with the New Mexico Department of Health to start a weekly testing site at our clinic. This was no easy feat, and required the logistical skills and dedication and passion of over 15 Spanish-speaking staff members every week, to register people (both in advance and same-day), set up the clinic, manage traffic, administer COVID testing, and call patients with COVID test results and provide counseling by phone.
In the last year, we performed 3138 individual COVID tests, over 51 weekly test dates. On average we tested 62 people each week, and on our busiest testing day we tested 226 people in two hours.
In the last two months, our weekly numbers have decreased greatly, so after this week, we are redirecting community members interested in COVID testing, to the New Mexico Department of Health website at https://cv.nmhealth.org.

Después de un año entero de pruebas de autoservicio de COVID en Casa de Salud, estamos anunciando que esta semana será nuestra última semana de pruebas. Estamos muy orgullosos de haber ayudado a la comunidad este año en una forma poderosa.
Durante los primeros meses de la pandemia del 2020, muchas personas de nuestra comunidad y nuestros pacientes nos dejaron saber de las barreras para obtener pruebas de COVID. Unos se sintieron incómodos porque les preguntaban por su seguro social o seguro médico. Otras personas necesitaban los servicios en español y unos lugares de pruebas de COVID solamente tenían personas que hablaban inglés. Muchas personas no tenían acceso a internet para registrarse en línea. Otras personas estaban muy preocupadas por el costo de la prueba y de hecho, muchas personas recibieron facturas de pago de clínicas y hospitales en los primeros meses de esta pandemia.
Casa de Salud se unió con otras organizaciones e hizo planes en este asunto relacionado a acceso y costo de pruebas de COVID. También decidimos ser parte de la solución y en cooperación con el Departamento de Salud de Nuevo México empezamos pruebas semanales en nuestra clínica. No fue una tarea fácil, requerimos del apoyo logístico, la dedicación y la pasión de más de 15 de nuestros trabajadores que hablan español para registrar a las personas (antes y el mismo dia de las pruebas), cambios en la clínica, dirigir tráfico, realizar las pruebas de COVID y llamar pacientes con los resultados al mismo tiempo de proveer ayuda profesional telefonica.
En este año, hicimos 3,138 pruebas individuales del COVID en más de 51 semanas. En promedio, hicimos 62 pruebas cada semana y en el día más ocupado con pruebas ayudamos a 226 personas en dos horas.
En los últimos dos meses, nuestros números de pruebas han disminuido grandiosamente, así que después de esta semana, estaremos dirigiendo los miembros de la comunidad para pruebas al Departamento de Salud de Nuevo México a la página de internet de https://cv.nmhealth.org.
