Health Apprentice Program
How it works
-
We are searching for volunteers who are
Compassionate -- Responsible -- Fast Learner -- Hard Worker -- Self Starter
Professional -- Attentive -- Through -- Welcoming -- Accepting -- Open
-
With no previous experience required, our volunteers will gain invaluable training and hands on experience. Health Apprentices are trained on-the-job by our doctors, nurse practitioner, physician assistants and senior medical assistants in many aspects of primary care, from triage and charting to injections, blood draws and many other treatments; addressing critical healthcare needs in New Mexico.
-
Along with extensive clinical trainning, our volunteers are trained in cultural humility and anti-racism values and are selected for ability to connect with patients from diverse backgrounds.
-
Students stay with us for 1-2 years of continuous commitment; establishing a sense of community often missing in other clinics with large volunteer bases.
-
Using this apprentice model of trianing, Casa de Salud engages it's volunteers deeply and better prepars them for a future in any health field, including but not limited to nursing, medicine, and acupuncture.
-
Our team of health apprentices allows our clinic to work dynamically with our patients and we estimate save our clinic and patients well over $120,000 per year.
